If you haven’t heard me speak about 1 Giant Leap and What About Me? you haven’t been paying attention. Since my first blog post after seeing it, I’ve watched it again and again. And again. Plus the extras. All of them. I’ve also read Duncan Bridgeman’s super long diary of their trip.
So you can imagine I was pretty stoked to tap into the mind of one of the creators of the film, Jamie Catto. He multi-tasked while we talked (well, he talked). He was cooking up fish sticks and mashed potatoes for the kids. Through my tinny laptop speakers I could hear the oil splattering and the food being chopped. As in any kitchen, there was banging of pots and pans. But he kept on, unfazed by his own distractions, like he was speaking of things he knew and believed in very deeply. And he did.
We talked for just over 30 minutes. And now I have the task of transcribing the conversation onto the PC, a task made more difficult that I, for some reason, cannot transfer the file from the camera to the laptop. Yes, I used a camera to record the interview. I’m just that resourceful.
I won’t give more away, but I hope to have this put together in the next little while and published. I will probably end up posting half of it here — there’s no way I can include everything he talked about in the one article.
In the meantime, here’s a trailer for What About Me? I dare you not to get goose bumps watching this.

Yay! So stoked that you connected, and I’m looking forward to reading more. Ah! The power of Twitter.
Love the detail about oil and fish sticks- makes him real.
So looking forward to the interview as well.
Ha. Twitter. We’re still in the dating phase. A few tweets here and there. Nothing exclusive yet. I’m sure once time frees up soon, Twitter and I will be all over each other.
I started getting goosebumps around 3:07. These guys are AWESOME! Like Julie said, love the details about the cooking too. So real.
@Lola I fully understand, I’ve only given Twitter my letterman jacket just recently. It was actually quite flukey, I still don’t know how he found me (not to say that he was looking for me).
Yes, these guys ARE awesome! And even if you can’t watch the DVD yet because they don’t have a North American version, get their albums, both of them – but especially the What About Me? album. Beautiful.
That looks absolutely incredible! I can’t wait to read your interview and to see the film.
I can’t give in to twitter. I’m already too screened in!
Kate, you will be assimilated!
