Matador Senior Editor, David Miller, on MatadorU

September 25, 2009

Matador UIn an interview with Trisha Miller from travel-writers-exchange.com, Matador Senior Editor talks about Matador’s latest endeavor — MatadorU.

David discusses the teaching backgrounds of the team that put the travel writing course together and the philosophies behind MatadorU. He digs into what he feels are the most important things that students will take away, besides just learning the content.

He also gives solid advice for potential writers — namely to “come correct” as he so eloquently put it, reaffirming the importance of writing from the heart, believing in what you’re putting out there, and just being honest. David and the rest of the senior eds at Matador have been mentors of sorts to me — they’ve helped me find my voice and style and gain confidence as a writer.

Am I biased towards MatadorU? Well, seeing as I’m one of the editors at Matador, I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t. But for what it’s worth, the team that put it together know two things exceptionally well: writing and teaching.

If you’re already part of the Matador Community, you’ll know what I’m talking about when I discuss the interaction between members and the positive vibes that flow through there. It’s the exact same energy over at the U, and this is what makes it unique, what sets it apart from so many other writing courses out there.
